Wow have things been busy recently!
In the past month I’ve relocated, started a new job and moved into my new home with my boyfriend. We’ve only just had a sofa delivered, so I am very pleased to no longer come home from work and rest my weary self on a garden chair. The novelty wears off. Quickly.
So the past month has been hectic, and ridiculously stressful. Things weren’t going right for my boyfriend and I, with delay after delay for our move. So you can imagine my delight when I got an email informing me that I had been nominated by the lovely Ellis for the Liebster Award!
The Liebster Award?
That’s right! My first award! So to sum it up, it’s an award passed from blogger to blogger to highlight new blogs that we enjoy to one another. The idea is to pass it on to blogs you enjoy reading which have less than 500 followers and spread the word of great blogs.
Are there any rules?
Why yes indeed, but nothing too strenuous! They are:
- Thank the blogger who gave it to you.
- Answer the eleven questions they ask you.
- Nominate eleven bloggers with less than 500 followers.
- Ask those eleven bloggers eleven questions.
- Let those lovely bloggers know they’ve been nominated so they can continue the chain!
So here goes….
Firstly, I obviously have to extend a massive thank you to Ellis from ellisgoesonholiday.wordpress.com. Aside from nominating me, I have enjoyed finding out what she’s been getting up to on her travels. If she hadn’t already nominated me, she would most definitely find herself on my list of nominations. So yes, I am sneaking in what would be a cheeky 12th nomination, but I’ll let you decide how amazing her blog is by heading over there….here!
- What is the first thing to do on your bucket list?
Visit every country in the world. It’s an ambitious one I know, but it’s nice to have something to work towards. And to be fair, even if I don’t visit everywhere, I’ll be happy once I’ve given it a good try!
- Tell me about your hometown. If I was visiting, what should I do there?
Well…my hometown isn’t a place many people visit for a day out or a weekend away. In fact, it’s known more for the trouble and controversy that arises there than for anything else. So if you were visiting, I’d make a real effort to show you the places I love there. For starters, I’d recommend a walk in the springs, where you find huge hills that are a great challenge to climb, a natural spring you can drink from and wild horses. After a lovely picnic there, I’d recommend you take a drive down the country lanes and find a quaint little country pub to enjoy a drink as you soak up the stunning scenery. And to finish the day off? Take advantage of the great travel connections, hop on a plane and jet off to your next destination.
- I have a habit of getting lost whenever I’m travelling, but I find when that happens, I discover the best places. Do you agree, and where have you found?
Most definitely! I find that straying from the well travelled path often means you find the hidden gems that offer a real taste of the local area. For example, a few years ago my boyfriend and I were in Tenerife looking for somewhere to grab a bite for dinner. There’s a popular promenade that is quite busy, but there’s also another street higher up that we decided we should explore. We couldn’t actually find the street we were looking for, but found a great little tapas bar that has about 10 tables and stunning views over the bay. It’s cosy beyond belief, but it is most definitely my favourite restaurant ever! Every time we are in Tenerife we make an effort to go there, and last time we visited it took us 50 minutes to walk there. Definitely worth it and I recommend it to everyone who visits there.
- Chocolate and peanut butter: yes or no?
Chocolate: Yes!! Peanut butter: ewwww….no!
- What is your signature dish?
Jambalaya! I’ve made it so many times I couldn’t even tell you the original receipe, and I love that every time I make it it tastes different.
- What is your best food discovery?
Tapas…without a doubt! I’m a fussy eater so it means I can try loads of different things, and if I don’t like it, I can just order something else without wasting a whole meal! And, of course, I love Mediterranean food. Bit of patatas bravas, chorizo, pan y ali oli…my mouth is watering already!
- Do you have a song which reminds you of a certain travel story? If so, what is the song and story?
There’s only one song that brings to mind a travel story, and it’s more of a holiday anecdote than a proper travel story. My first holiday with my boyfriend found us in Tenerife (have you guessed that I like it there yet?) and he introduced me to the musical stylings of Garth Brooks. I instantly fell in love with him and listened to his album non-stop for a week. So one evening I put him on full blast (well, mid blast…we had neighbours…) and jumped on the bed to start dancing. As it fully kicked in, I did a huge dance move that made me fall off the bed. Luckily nothing was broken, but it was funny as anything!
- What is your best travel tip?
Research, research, research. Then when you get there, pick a few key things you want to do, and forget the rest. Sometimes the most fun comes from stumbling upon something. Of course, you don’t want to miss the main attractions either!
- What is the one thing you always take travelling with you?
My camera 🙂 I love looking back over photos of places I’ve been.
10. Where is your favourite place?
Everywhere I’ve been is a favourite for a different reason than the others. But overall, Tenerife is probably the winner. If only for being home to the best tapas bar in the world!
11. Tell me about your biggest travel mishap?
I made a rookie mistake of putting a bottle of water in my bag without checking the lid was closed properly. As I got off the flight, arriving in Malaga, I reached for my passport and felt a puddle. An actual puddle that had stuff floating in it. Nearly half a litre of water had emptied into my hand luggage. My camera was ruined, and I lost a fair amount of photos, but apart from that most other things dried up.
12. What is your favourite blog post you have written?
My favourite so far is probably one of those from the Amsterdam series. It was around that time that I found more of my writing style, and I love reading them back to remind myself of what we got up to.
