Photo Friday: London Eye

Officially opened on the 31st December 1999, the Millennium Wheel was built to celebrate the new millennium. Now known as the London Eye, there are 32 sealed, air-conditioned pods that offered the highest panoramic views of London before the viewing platform of the Shard opened, from Europe’s biggest ferris wheel.

Interestingly, each of the pods represents one of the London boroughs. Each holds about 25 people, who are free to walk around or take a seat on the bench in the middle.

The London Eye has become a symbol of London, and on New Year’s Eve takes part in the London New Year’s Eve fireworks. It’s a great attraction throughout the whole year, but the best time to take a ride up is on a sunny day (good luck!) when the views across London are just stunning!
